Product information
A dental pocket gauge is often called a "sondme" or "probe." This instrument is used to measure the depth of the gum pocket (the distance from the top of the gum to the bottom of the gum pocket) and check the health of the patient's gums. There are many different types of sonds, but one of the most common is the "Williams sondme."
Design: The Williams sondme is usually straight and long, with a pointed tip and edges to make it easier to measure the gum pocket. The tip of the instrument is usually numbered in units of measurement (usually millimeters) so that the user can read the results accurately.
How to use: The dentist will use the Williams sondme by placing the pointed tip into the gum pocket between the tooth and the gum, then gently pushing down until it makes contact with the bottom of the gum pocket. The result will be read on the corresponding numbered line.
A gingival pocket gauge is an important part of a dental and gum health checkup, helping to determine if there are problems with gingivitis, bone infection, or other dental problems that need care and treatment.
